The ASC Base at Samuel Laycock School opened in September 2015 and is housed in a purpose built annexe of the school. The ASC Base provides for students on the autistic spectrum who require specific approaches to their environment and teaching and learning strategies. In 2019 the ACS Base expanded from four to five classes each of which is staffed by teachers and teaching assistants who have a wide range of experience in working with young people on the Autistic Spectrum.
Students are taught within their own classroom base for the majority of lessons and also have access to more specialist teaching spaces within the main part of school such as Food Technology, P.E. and Art. Staff take a flexible approach as to where they deliver lessons and will adapt to suit the needs of different individuals.
In line with the whole school RESPECT values and the school mission statement we intend that our curriculum equips every young person who comes to us with the knowledge and skills to be independent, safe and happy in their adult life.
